@Brian My comment earlier directly applies to your recent Dec. 16th comment. As a natural rebellious person I fancy a good old fashioned insult-the-one-your-with attitude, but as a vet I find your insult characterizing me as a "brainwashed sociopath" far from intellectual, if not mind boggling at the immaturity of your name calling. As a member of this meet-up group I'm here to discuss philosophies, not listen to infantile name calling.

Perhaps one day you will rather insult a SEAL or Marine to their faces so that you can face the metaphysical consequences instead of behind the screen of a computer.

Albert: With all due respect, the link you posted is to an internal policy document and not a peer reviewed scientific journal. It is this sort of non-reviewed editorializing that I see most climate change skeptics falling prey to. So, again, any citations to scientific, peer-reviewed journals (e.g., Science, Nature, Lancet, specific climatology scientific journals)??? Thanks, Ken

From the Danish National Space Center, reassertion that the Sun still appears to be the main forcing agent in global climate change. http://www.friendsofscience...

To be better informed about climate change, I would like to read some actual source material from scientists disputing it. Can anyone provide some citations to real scientific articles (published in peer-reviewed journals on climatology, etc.) with actual data disputing climate change, vs. just essays or lists of scientists who oppose it? Thanks, Ken

The scenes from Copenhagen dominates news in Europe. Climate change is not new - the accepted hypothesis industrial activity is responsible and anyone "denying" anything be targeted as a "deniar" is the height of emotionalism. Theories showing atmospheric, tectonic and astronomical reasons why climate will change are forbidden. Copenhagen reminds me of the Church versus Copernicus - religion versus science: when has science ever triumphed in such times? Never. A scientific Dark Age is upon us.

@max - thanks for the kind note... have deleted 2-3 posts from this long discussion and put a couple of members on notice. For our live events, our Membership Policy states that any rude behavior is not tolerated (regardless of how long someone has been a member). 98% of our members are cool - we have zero tolerance towards the remaining 2%.

Guy's this is something that bothered me at the last meeting... This is a philosophy group. We're here to discuss philosophies (note the plural.) It's okay to have different political, gender, religious, sociological, racial philosophies. In fact it would be quite boring if we all had the same philosophy in life - there would be no growth as human beings. With that being said, I really support John's deletion of posts that have gone from discussion, to unreasonable and narrow minded attacks

Brian J - to say that I strongly oppose your views is putting it in the mildest way. And please do not pity the United States Armed Forces - pity is not deserved by the brave, the honorable and the courageous - save it for Tiger Woods.

Let's keep it polite - I deleted someone's post who used the words "close-minded" and "not in touch with the real world". That is not tolerated and further posts of that sort will result in stronger action.

Oh, and please keep Tiger Wood's in the news. I use to think he was boring, now he's just the gift that keeps on giving(lol).

<<<<Spare a thought as you go about your daily routine for the American forces protecting this nation today>>>> I don't really care about the troops, nor do I support. I pity them, and I feel bad for the fact that their called upon to fight and die in wars that basically won't amount to anything positive or meaningful. WW2 was a different time, and place. I still feel that WW2 shouldn't of happen, and what we did to the Japanese were War crimes, but I would of faught in it.

You're right John, the "R" word does get thrown around a bit too much, but there's nothing wrong with that. I call it like I see it. But the Post might not be racist, it might be prejudice. As my girlfriend recently told me, alot of people aren't racist, just prejudice. As in prejudice towards black people, latinos, Jews, Italians, Irish, Caucasion, Liberal Democrats, Conservative Republicans, ect ect. So with that knowledge, the NY Post is garbage to my eyes. Nothing more, nothing less.

Today 66 years ago, Japan attacked Pearl Harbor - the news was grave indeed. But the Japanese had miscalculated, you see they had unleasshed the full might of the US against them and were to learn a lesson, well deserved, that they would never forget. Spare a thought as you go about your daily routine for the American forces protecting this nation today, and in particular those in the spearhead, the USN SEALS.

Behold - reality is my friend and reason is my sword. CLIMATEGATE - the fraud that is man-made climate change is exposed despite the attempts of the Left. Now cognitive dissonance rules as the epistimology of belief and the metaphysics of mysticsm, the foundations of collectivism dictate. Can the Left , these haters of capitalism, these haters of the businessman, of liberty deny THEMSELVES? No. Problem is that they rule and affect us ALL. Altruism in all its evil. Copenhagen MUST fail!

Woods' behavior is reprehensible and shows what a hypocrite he is. I have no thoughts on the American dream because I think most Americans do not care about it any longer. If Mrs. Woods remains with him then it does not say anything better about her. This whole affair is sordid and the quicker it is off the pages of the news, the better.

When you're a real "Rock Star", like Paul McCartney, you're not concerned with keeping your "moral" based endorsements and long divorce settlements. McCartney realized a prenup would be more costly, knowing he could drag Heather Mills thru a lengthy divorce before she saw a penny. As expected, she took a fraction of what many thought she would of had with a prenup. Tiger Woods is trapped! McCartney said: "There'll be no more nagging, no more chaos, no more Heather...bliss. I have peace at last.

Lots of fun! The best part was the informal health care debate at the end, where I was happy to talk with intelligent people with diverse viewpoints. Thanks to John and others for organizing this.
    •  Too small of a room. I liked the Rogue better. :)

This was my first meetup ever, and I quite enjoyed it. Some of the topics were quite open-ended and many times we found ourselves asking about what aspect of the topic we wanted to discuss. We also had someone who grew up in Spain that had never heard of the Grinch, so that topic was a little tougher. All in all, lots of fun, very mind expansive and lots of interesting information and argumentative styles. Would do it again.
